Day 12Read Luke – Chapter 12
Think about…
In Luke 12 we find Jesus speaking thousands of people who flocked to him for his powerful teachings on the Kingdom of God. Jesus continues to warn people of dead religion and also the futility of making material possessions a source of confidence or peace.
Here, and In a parallel passage in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus speaks to the senselessness of worrying about material things. He uses the fitting imagery of birds and wild flowers and how God cares for them and they don’t worry or scrap and fight for the things they need. If God cares for animals and flowers that are here today and thrown out tomorrow, and gives them such beauty and care — how much more will he take care of our needs. You and I are created in his image and he loved us enough to send his only Son to be born 2000 years ago so we might know him personally. Today and in the days ahead begin to watch birds. No, you don’t have to join a bird watching club, but just begin to pay attention to them. Watch cardinals, blue jays, and chickadees and see how they are provided for. When you see them be reminded of God’s care for you. You are worth infinitely more to God and you can trust his love and care. Return to the Gospel of Luke overview page
