Day 5Read Luke – Chapter 5
Think about…
In Chapter 5, Jesus uses an object lesson to teach an important lesson about life in his upside down Kingdom: He demonstrated to Peter, James and John that success isn’t dependent on our drive, talents or experience. Only one thing matters: obedience.
He told them to let down their nets, and even though it didn’t make any sense — it was the wrong time of day now after an unsuccessful night of fishing — they did what he said. And then he changed their whole concept of success: filling their nets to the point of breaking, nearly sinking their boats! Like Peter, James, and John, Jesus invites us to drop our security of the known and follow him. When we do, everything is new — priorities, ways of thinking, and expectations. The key for them — and us — was to follow Him and obey. It’s the only way to live a full life in God’s Upside Down Kingdom. As we follow, Jesus teaches us to guide others on the journey — to fish for people. What’s an area in your life where Jesus is teaching you something new or turning your expectations on their head? Has he ever, or is he now, asking you to do something that doesn’t make sense? Do you have a group of other Christ followers to walk with you and help you obey and live a full life in God’s upside down Kingdom? Return to the Gospel of Luke overview page
