Day 6Read Luke – Chapter 6
Think about…
In Chapter 6, religious leaders got so caught up in their systems and routines, that they missed it when the Scriptures that they spent their lives studying were being fulfilled right before their eyes. The prophets had said that the Son of God would deliver good news to the poor, sight to the blind, healing to the deaf, lame and sick, and freedom for the oppressed. Jesus was doing these very things, yet all the Pharisees could see was that Jesus wasn’t following their interpretation of the Law. What might we be missing because Jesus doesn’t fit our expectations or our interpretations of Scripture?
Jesus preached to the crowds who came for healing and to hear him. He began to paint a picture of life in God’s upside down Kingdom centered around the concept of love: loving enemies, being careful not to judge and criticize others, and good words and actions that spring from good hearts. He challenged them to put his words into practice like the wise builder who dug down deep laying a foundation on the rock so that when the floods came, the house stand because it was well-built. As you read through his sermon, what jumped out at you that you need to put into practice? Do you have a fellow Christ follower who can help keep you accountable?
